The opportunity

The Evening Librarian is responsible for the effective delivery of the evening library service across Central St Martins, London College of Communication and London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London.

You will lead a team of 10 Library Assistants working across these 3 colleges. As part of the requirement of the role you may occasionally be asked to work at one of the other 3 colleges: Chelsea, Camberwell and Wimbledon. The service runs during undergraduate term-time (3 terms per year), Monday - Friday 6pm - 10.15pm. This is a 33 week contract (pro-rata), 21.25 hours per week, equating to 0.44 FTE. 31 weeks are worked in the evening, and other hours will be used for training and contact hours during the day as arranged with your line manager.

About you

You will have an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in Library and Information Studies, or equivalent.

You will have experience of managing services and staff within a library or information services environment, including provision of IT support services. You will have a customer-focussed approach and work with colleagues to provide a high quality user experience. You will have excellent communication skills and liaise with colleagues working throughout the day, night, and weekends to ensure a coherent and consistent experience for our users.

Leading the evening team you will have excellent team management skills, and be able to demonstrate success in ensuring appropriate resources and support are available to enable the team and individual members to achieve their objectives. You will be able to motivate ten team members across three college sites and ensure that they understand what is expected of them, delegating work appropriately, monitoring progress and resolving any issues. As the sole evening Library Services manager you will deal with any situation that may arise.

You will provide support for teaching learning and research, ideally having experience of this within an academic setting, e.g. enquiry services, on-site and remotely as required.  You will maintain up-to-date knowledge of services available in your own and related areas of work, monitoring standards and levels of service constantly, adapting services and systems to ensure they meet customer needs, including implementing new services.

In return, University of the Arts London offers a final salary pension and a commitment to your continuing personal development and training in an environment that encourages excellence, creativity and diversity. Relocation assistance is available.
