The opportunity

This post is an exciting opportunity for a Post-Graduate or Post-Doctoral Researcher (or equivalent demonstrable industry/research experience) to work as the Research & Development (R&D) Project Lead, facilitating a novel collaborative project between Central Saint Martins (UAL) and Anna Glover Ltd

The successful candidate will work with the management, commercial and R&D teams at Anna Glover Ltd, an award-winning design business specialising in luxury wallpaper, fashion and creative consultancy and research experts in design, textiles, print and materials at the Textiles Future Research Centre in Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London.

You will be employed by the University of the Arts London but be predominately based at Anna Glover Ltd with premises in London. You will spend some time at the University on project-related research as well as receiving academic, technical and mentoring support throughout the project.

Anna Glover Ltd.’s EcoSilTex Project has been awarded funding within The Business of Fashion, Textiles & Technology (BFTT) R&D SME Support Programme. The BFTT Partnership is a multi-million pounds initiative aimed at accelerating the growth of fashion, textile and technology sector through collaborative R&D partnerships and projects. The SME Programme aims to foster a creative business development culture which will enable fashion, textile and technology SMEs to thrive using bespoke R&D as a mechanism for innovation and growth. 

The principal aim of the EcoSilTex Project is to research and develop a solution to the growing demand for high volume, luxury printed wallcoverings with low ecological impact exploring both suitable and novel materials and processes.

About you

  • Post Graduate or Doctoral qualification in the area of sustainable digital textile design and print or equivalent and relevant research and/or industry experience. (essential)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of sustainable textiles, printing techniques and innovative textile production processes gained through research and/or relevant R&D industry work. (essential)
  • Experience related to digital textile design and print including sublimation techniques. (desirable) 
  • Experience of working with sustainable textiles and alternative materials. (desirable)
  • Experience related to applying textile design and production knowledge to other sectors beyond fashion (e.g. interiors, automotive, aerospace, etc). (desirable)
  • Relevant quantitative and qualitative research skills suited to the analysis of materials, textiles & processes. (essential)
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills. (essential)
