The opportunity

If you are a leading authority in the field of industrial design or related areas, this is an exciting opportunity to join one of the world’s leading universities for Art and Design and operate at the forefront of design education, research and knowledge exchange.

As Course Leader for the new MA Design for Industry 5.0, you will provide a stimulating and supportive environment for students and colleagues. Industry 5.0 is a future in which the traditional drivers of efficiency and productivity give way to the ethics of care and human-centred design. The course foregrounds people and the planet to explore the entrepreneurial opportunity presented by fourth industrial revolution technologies. You will be responsible for assuring the academic standards of the course and its delivery through your academic leadership and the effective management of resources.

You will also contribute actively as part of our team, sharing your knowledge with staff and students. Through your excellent professional networks, you will ensure the continuous development of the course through industry links and collaborations, by reflecting critically on broader contexts of industrial design and educational provision internationally.

About you

With extensive experience in industrial design at the forefront of contemporary manufacturing technologies, you will be committed to transformation and innovation in postgraduate education and its role in addressing contemporary contexts and challenges facing manufacturing industries and their impact on people and the planet. You will be someone who wishes to embrace the opportunities to work, share, and exchange knowledge and skills within this dynamic and creative environment and contribute to the evolution of MA Design for Industry 5.0 within the Product, Ceramic and Industrial Design Programme and its culture.

With a postgraduate degree in Industrial Design or related fields, you will have considerable professional and academic experience, with an inventive approach to students’ learning and high aspirations for their achievement, their professional futures and the course’s development and advancement internationally.

Creative and highly motivated, you will have detailed knowledge and understanding of design practices and technologies, and a keen awareness of contemporary concerns and debates within design practices. You will have a commitment to addressing issues of race, diversity and social inclusion, and the climate emergency, through creative and innovative pedagogy and projects.

UAL is committed to addressing the under-representation of staff from Black and Minority Ethnic communities, using our student profile as a reference point.
