The opportunity

The Design School at London College of Communication is looking to recruit an experienced Subject Coordinator to manage, teach and develop the curriculum for our Contextual and Theoretical Studies (CTS) Units and to take a lead in developing research in the Graphic Design Communication Programme. CTS lecturers deliver contextual and theoretical studies across the School of Design. The Graphic Design Communication Programme is one of three Programmes within the Design School and includes courses in the subject areas of graphic and media design, visual communication and data visualization. We are seeking a candidate with particular subject knowledge and expertise in one or more of the above areas but you will be expected to teach across courses and levels in the Design School as designated.

Working closely with the Dean, Programme Director and Research Coordinator, the successful candidate will lead research for the Graphic Design Communication Programme and manage and participate in the delivery of innovative teaching as well as making a significant contribution to pedagogic development, assessment, quality management and recruitment. There will also be opportunities to continue your research and contribute to a fast-paced and forward-thinking team. The appointed candidate will work under the direction of the Programme Director and alongside the CTS Coordinators and Subject Coordinators and contribute to School, College and University initiatives.

About you

You will have a relevant degree and postgraduate qualification and you will be an experienced lecturer and active researcher who has taught contextual and critical theory at Higher Education level before. You will have experience of unit management and the delivery of cross course units. You will be expected to continue your research, while inspiring students and developing affective and innovative pedagogical practices. You will be expected to take a lead in supporting and developing the research culture in the Graphic Design Communication Programme area.

You will be comfortable liaising with internal and external stakeholders, working as part of a team and sharing your knowledge and expertise. The successful candidate should possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and manage part time staff as well as be an innovative teacher. Candidates should demonstrate subject knowledge in the Graphic Design Communication disciplines as well as skills relevant to subject development within an academic, research and professional context.
