The opportunity

The Design School (LCC) seeks a lecturer in Prototyping, Materialising and Storytelling for Design Futures. The Lecturer will lead and support the development of curricula and teaching across the BA Interaction Design Arts and the MA Service Design to expand prototyping practices and integrate storytelling through materialising into the curriculum while working with the community of practice in questioning assumptions in interaction and service design.

As a lecturer you are responsible for teaching, administration, assessment, curriculum development, and on-going scholarship within the discipline. You will work collaboratively within a course teams, deploying specialist expertise to develop pedagogy and the curriculum in innovative and critical directions. You will make a significant contribution to the quality of learning and the support students receive in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully.

You will also work with the Course Leaders, students and colleagues across the college in promoting and developing the subjects through conferences, public exhibitions and other contributions to research and knowledge exchange. You will develop partnerships and collaborations with industry and academic partners as well as bring your own research and/or practice to bear on the development of the subject and the course.

About you

You will have previous experience of teaching in Higher Education or comparable context, and in delivering a high-quality student experience, as well as some knowledge of curriculum development and assessment. You should be comfortable working with diverse cohorts of students and committed to a teaching approach that integrates theory and practice and will engage students through a combination of innovative pedagogy, knowledge exchange and/or research. You will have or should be willing to attain, with UAL’s support, a relevant teaching qualification or recognition.

You will have a strong commitment to the advancement of your field, critical discourse in contemporary design practice, and theoretical and technical exploration of it. You will be proactive and actively contribute to the courses and programme’s aims and vision, especially with a focus on prototyping and storytelling practices.

You should be a specialist practitioner and/or researcher who is keen to use your academic and/or industry-based experience to support the development of student work on the BA Interaction Design Arts and the MA Service Design. You should have a strong understanding of the contemporary context of interaction and service design in an academic and/or professional setting, and be engaged in relevant networks and communities of practice within this and/or related fields.
