The opportunity

This role is responsible for leading, influencing and implementing successful student admissions strategies, within a customer service-oriented ethos to support the prospective student journey.

As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) within UAL’s Student Marketing, Recruitment and Admissions (SMRA) department, the post-holder will work collaboratively through effective liaison across the Colleges and central University departments. They will ensure that admissions activities directly support the conversion of applicants to enrolled students and enhance the prospective student experience through all touchpoints with the University.

The post-holder also leads and manages the development and continuous improvement of UAL admissions policy and processes and ensures the delivery of a professional admissions service of the highest quality and standards. They are responsible for providing advice and guidance to inform the University’s responsibilities in relation to national and international admissions processes through UCAS, UKVI and the UUK Admissions Code of Practice.

About you

Key elements of the person specification include:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in an appropriate discipline
  • In depth knowledge of HE (Higher Education) Admissions for Home and International students
  • Significant experience of working in higher education admissions across UK, EU and international markets
  • Experience of ensuring that admissions practices, processes, and activities support and facilitate the delivery of student recruitment strategies and provide the highest standards of service for prospective students
  • Ability to lead within and proactively advocate for a customer service culture
  • Experience of managing a frontline professional admissions / customer service team
  • Experience of building effective internal working relationships across all levels of seniority and functions
  • Understanding of change management and experience of delivering continual business process improvement and change projects
  • Experience of working on system implementation projects, and of ensuring deliverables are met in line with key project deadlines and milestones
  • Experience of managing high performing teams
  • Experience of using negotiation and influencing skills to operate with and across a diverse range of external and internal stakeholders, to achieve desired results
  • Experience of building peer/professional networks and developing and sharing best practice within and outside the organisation
  • Proven ability to work independently without direct supervision
  • Communicates technical or specialist ideas or information persuasively adapting the style and message to a diverse audience in an inclusive and accessible way
  • Motivates and leads a team effectively, setting clear objectives to manage performance
  • Effectively plans and manages operational activities or large projects to achieve long term objectives.
