The opportunity

This UAL Short Courses Ltd role, based at designated locations across UAL sites, will assist with the planning and scheduling, coordination and delivery of onsite, online and customised short courses and activities. The role will work specified hours which may vary at different times in the year, which are confirmed on appointment. Working location may vary at certain times of the year. 

Academic Enterprise (AE) leads the University of the Arts London’s enterprise driven income operations and is integral to the University’s long term development. Academic Enterprise’s mission is to increase the amount of income generated by the University from non-core teaching and research activities. It includes a number of successful existing business operations: UAL Short Courses Ltd (UALSC), the UAL Awarding Body, the Language Centre, the University’s Study Abroad programme and UAL ArtsTemps Ltd (UALAT) which manages the temporary and permanent employment of approximately 2,500 UAL students and graduates each year.

There are approximately 140 salaried staff and 1,100 hourly paid teaching staff and external moderators working in Academic Enterprise operations in all UAL’s colleges as well as central university services. Around 72,000 students study on short courses or qualifications offered by AE business units.

About you

Your profile should include - 

  • A high level of competency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Interest in fashion, arts, design or communications (desirable)
  • Administrative support in a busy fast paced environment, ideally in FE or HE education, or similar setting
  • Liaising with tutors and staff across the oraganisation
  • Experience of and understanding of the art and design FE and HE education system. (desirable)
  • Communicates effectively orally, in writing and/or using visual media
  • Good interpersonal skills required to response to face-to-face, E-mail and telephone enquiries
  • Plans, prioritises and organises work to achieve objectives on time
  • Ability to work independently with attention to detail
  • Works collaboratively in a team, across the university and with relevant professional groups
  • Provides a positive and responsive student or customer service. Demonstrates diplomacy and empathy
  • Uses initiative and creativity to investigate and resolve day-to-day problems.
