The opportunity

Your role will be as varied as it is challenging and rewarding. You'll support the Professor of Cultural Studies in research work in the area of religion and fashion and gender and sexuality studies, whilst also providing research assistance for research projects and publications to support the development of other research activities.

To play an integral part in the development of our exceptional research culture you'll need to bring an abundance of skills and abilities with you. You'll be expected to carry out a number of vital roles, including managing events; researching potential speakers; preparing briefs and announcements and designing and managing project databases e.g. respondent information, research resources and news items.

You will undertake as directed, liaison with research and industry partners in the areas of the professor's research in order to develop academic and community networks and related activities. Your role will cover a number of essential areas across the organisation, including accompanying colleagues as required on external research trips; researching and selecting primary and critical material for deployment in projects; searching the blogosphere for commentary on modest fashion and other forms of fashion research; engaging in discussion with brands, groups and individuals about their engagement with modest and other forms of minority fashion; to managing multiple research budgets on a day to day basis and to devising and maintaining recording mechanisms.

About you

As well as a postgraduate qualification or equivalent professional standing, to be up to the challenge, you'll need to demonstrate your extensive knowledge, experience and the ability to work independently in relation to one or more of the following specialist subject areas and related research methodologies: fashion studies, cultural studies, gender and sexuality studies. postcolonial studies, visual studies, sociology of religion and/or cultural history.

Your experience of individual research work, collaborative research work, picture research for academic publications, undertaking and managing copyright clearance for academic publications, and qualitative research methods and interviews, will be just as important to the role. Naturally, you'll have a proven track record in academic research assistance and academic events organisation. You'll also have experience of participating in internal and external research networks, sharing information and ideas with a team, managing visual, literary and digital resources as well as research related correspondence, managing budgets and keeping budget records.
