The opportunity

The successful applicant will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team of academics and practitioners in our Communications and Media programme at London College of Communication, UAL. The role requires a specific focus on our BA (Hons) Contemporary Media Cultures course which examines the role of media, cultural and creative processes in shaping today’s world. The course uniquely integrates theory and practice, fostering a learning by doing approach in the context of media making. We are particularly interested to hear from applicants who will take a hands-on approach to the introduction of key areas of debate within media and/or cultural studies. As well as taking responsibility for teaching and learning, the successful applicant will undertake a range of administrative responsibilities as required, including liaising with colleagues delivering our course franchise in Hong Kong.

About you

You will have substantial experience of undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching in Higher Education, including undertaking general curriculum management responsibilities, collaborating with others to coordinate units, developing research-informed curricula, supervising final projects, monitoring student progress and delivering pastoral care. Your approach to teaching will integrate critical thinking with the practical work of e.g. photography, film making, and writing for a public audience in the digital age. You will facilitate students’ own explorations of relevant knowledge through the application of your own innovative pedagogy and knowledge exchange or research relevant to an undergraduate curriculum in the study of media cultures at the intersection of communication, culture and technology. You will be equipped to teach cutting edge developments such as the study of affect, data, cultural politics, and the posthuman and have a grounding in critical epistemologies in relation to e.g. identity, the nation-state, political economy, media aesthetics, or tech. You will have a PhD, a relevant teaching qualification or be willing to study for one, and a strong commitment to the advancement of your field through demonstrable research or knowledge exchange activity.
