The opportunity

You will assist in the development, delivery and exploitation of high quality and customer-focused archive services at the University of the Arts London (UAL), which support the learning, teaching and research activities of its colleges. In particular, you will participate in the day-to-day organisation and delivery of services within the University’s Archives and Special Collections Centre.

You will supervise and support users of the archive and assist with enquiries. You will support and promote the use of the archives through educational activities such as inductions, information skills sessions and tailored learning support for specific courses on request in liaison with relevant departments across the University, as well as supporting promotion of the collections on UAL's webpages and the Archives and Special Collections Centre's blog and social media accounts.

You will contribute to the care and management of archive and special collections across the University of the Arts London especially those held by Library Services and will participate in an ongoing programme to catalogue archive collections in line with recognised archival practice, e.g. ISAD(g) and EAD and other nationally recognised standards, in liaison with the Archives and Special Collections Centre Manager and Assistant Manager. You will also support work to decolonise the university's archival collections in liaison with Library Services colleagues and colleagues across UAL.

You will support work on digitisation projects and support the preservation of digital archives using the digital preservation software Preservica.

About you

You will have either a postgraduate qualification in Archives and Records Management or equivalent experience of work in an archive and demonstrable knowledge and experience of working to international standards for the cataloguing and care of archival material.  You will have relevant experience in a public-facing archive and can create realistic plans to achieve the agreed deadlines and objectives of the role. With experience of providing guidance to support the diverse needs of archive users you will be able to communicate accurate and relevant information regarding services and systems in a manner that demonstrates effective interpersonal skills and an understanding of the academic context of the University.

In return, University of the Arts London offers generous leave, a final salary pension and a commitment to your continuing personal development and training in an environment that encourages excellence, creativity and diversity. Relocation assistance is available.
