The opportunity

Working as a member of the Policy and Advocacy team, you will support UAL’s policy, public affairs and network engagement in line with UAL’s broader strategic aims.

Working closely with the Associate Director, Policy and Advocacy, you will support the growing policy and advocacy team to coordinate public policy development and engagement across UAL, our colleges and institutes in areas affecting higher education and creative industries policy.

As part of a new way of working, you will also support UAL’s engagement with its networks, maximising engagement from UAL colleagues across the university by highlighting opportunities that arise both through our higher education networks, as well as those aligned with the broader creative industries.

The role sits in the University’s recently formed Social Purpose Group. The Group brings together our fundraising team, our communications directorate, and our new Storytelling Institute, a hub for campaigners and artists to collaborate in the service of social purpose goals.

About you

You will have a good understanding of the UK political system, parliamentary procedures and key parliamentary events. We are looking for someone with close interest in higher education and the creative economy.

You will have experience of working in policy, public affairs or campaigns gained in-house. Ideally in higher education, though we are also happy to see candidates from other fields adjacent to the sector.

You will have provided support on policy and public affairs related events, drafted documents for internal and external audiences and briefings for politicians and consultation responses.

We are keen to see someone with experience of engaging with external networks, setting up meetings with senior stakeholders and experience of managing a stakeholder database.

If you have any queries about this role or need any reasonable adjustments for your application, please contact Twinkle Brahmbhatt, Senior Resourcing Adviser via email at Socialpurposestaffrecruitment@arts.ac.uk or 020 7514 9627.

What we offer

We are UAL

We believe the world needs creativity. That’s why UAL is a social purpose university, dedicated to nurturing creativity and deploying it to help solve the world’s problems. At the core of our new 10-year strategy is a commitment to making the world a better place through our collective creative endeavour. This is a time of great change, and great opportunity and we are looking for a unique, talented and focused individual to join us at this exciting juncture.

As a leading university in our field, we aim to speak on behalf of the sector and take on the big issues facing higher education and the creative industries. We engage with public policy to achieve our research, knowledge exchange and place-making objectives, especially in relation to higher education policy making, and to address policy bias on creative education at international, national and regional levels.
