The opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Quality Assurance and Enhancement (Responsible Officer), for whom they will occasionally deputise, the Quality Assurance and Enhancement Manager efficiently manages the day-to-day running of the Awarding Body Quality Assurance and Enhancement function ensuring that the highest standards are maintained. They manage the annual quality cycle and are responsible for ensuring that internal project timeframes are adhered to and external deadlines are met.

This role supports the Head of Quality Assurance & Enhancement in achieving and maintaining full compliance with qualification regulators such as Ofqual, CCEA, and Qualifications Wales, and actively manages the annual self-evaluation exercise. 

Working closely with other managers across the Awarding Body, the post-holder supports the successful implementation of the three-year Academic Strategy, providing regulatory and quality assurance advice, actively driving the development and encouraging the adoption of quality enhancement policies and procedures. They seek to continuously innovate, and improve standards by engaging staff in an Awarding Body–wide quality initiative, ensuring that required levels of compliance are met, or exceeded.  The post-holder is responsible for managing, motivating and developing a high performing team of 5 people, where a collaborative working approach leads to high levels of engagement and exemplary customer service.

The post holder is expected to maintain high professional standards, manage confidential information with integrity, and work effectively with staff at all levels both internally across the University of the Arts London, and with external customers and stakeholders.

About you

You will have experience of working in a quality function of a regulated organisation, ideally an Awarding Body.  With an up-to-date and in-depth knowledge of the regulated Awarding Organisation environment, an understanding of UK Further Education (FE) qualifications and a commitment to continuous improvement, you will be able to employ your expert quality and compliance knowledge to drive forward quality improvements and ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.

Experience of working with a risk management system is essential and familiarity with an external verification and/or external moderation quality assurance model is desirable. You will have experience of working to demanding timeframes and quality standards and of producing clear, concise and accurate reports, ideally for governance committees. You will be familiar with the requirements of educational regulatory bodies such as Ofqual, CCEA, Qualification Wales.

With proven experience in line-management and effective staff development you will be adept at recruiting, managing, developing and inspiring a high performing team. You will have demonstrable experience of project planning and contingency management. The ability to present a persuasive argument and negotiate effectively is essential, as is experience of working to a set budget. Motivated, hardworking and highly organised, you  are experienced in dealing with confidential matters appropriately and according to policy and procedure. Educated to degree level, or equivalent professional qualification, you will commit to your own development through effective use of processes such as UAL’s excellent appraisal scheme and staff development opportunities.
