The opportunity

You will assist in the development and exploitation of the University’s Institutional Archive to capture, preserve and make accessible the University’s official records and institutional memory that have long-term value to researchers in the University and beyond.  You will contribute to the care and management of the University’s Institutional Archive and will participate in an ongoing programme to catalogue it in line with recognised archival practice, e.g. ISAD(g) and EAD and other nationally recognised standards, in liaison with the Assistant Manager, Archives and Special Collections Centre.

You will assist with induction sessions and other training activities for individuals and groups of students in the effective use of archive and special collections as appropriate and you will promote the Institutional Archive for research projects.

Contributing to the day-to-day operations of the University Archives and Special Collections Centre you will deliver high quality, customer-focussed archive services at UAL, which support the teaching, learning and research activities of its Colleges by supporting users of the archive and assisting with enquiries. 

About you

With either a degree in Archives and Records Management or equivalent, or a degree in any subject plus a postgraduate qualification in Archives and Records Management, or equivalent, you will have relevant experience in an archive or customer service environment. You will be used to creating realistic plans to achieve the agreed deadlines and objectives of the role, and are at ease working independently. With experience of providing guidance to support the diverse needs of archive users you will be able to communicate accurate and relevant information regarding services and systems in a manner that demonstrates effective interpersonal skills and an understanding of the academic context of the University.
