The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate who is committed to developing a creative curriculum for graduates entering art direction employment. The position invites applicants who are keen to facilitate students’ learning in developing innovative approaches to art direction and challenge the boundaries of the role of art directors in creative industries.

You will be responsible to the Course Leader for the delivery of the art direction units on the course, focusing on emerging technologies in art direction process and production. The course explores the art direction practice through a design and visual communication lens.

You will bring research and/or industry and teaching experience at postgraduate level. You will manage and participate in the delivery of student-centered and inclusive teaching as well as make a significant contribution to the pedagogic development of the course, assessment, quality management and student recruitment.

About you

We are looking for an individual with a qualification at undergraduate and postgraduate level relevant to art direction. You will have knowledge of delivering innovative projects in industry and/or an academic environment and experience of media production methods, moving image, interdisciplinary practices, and emerging technologies within the context of art direction or related visual communication disciplines.

As an academic, previous teaching experience at postgraduate level is essential in addition to experience of research and/or professional practice in art direction or equivalent design practice. You will also be able to cite examples of application of your engagement with emerging technologies within art direction or equivalent design contexts. You should also demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of design principles, social justice, the creative and cultural industries and the global social, cultural, environmental, political and economic forces that are transforming the design discipline.

The successful candidate should possess effective interpersonal skills and be a student-centred teacher focused on promoting diversity and inclusivity, while demonstrating strong communication and organisational skills. We are looking for applicants who can work collaboratively with colleagues to develop the subject area and share expertise.
