The opportunity

The M ARCH Architecture (RIBA|ARB Part 2) is an extended full-time course running for two calendar years, encompassing an industry placement and two summer schools. The course offers a professional pathway for architecture, within an environment committed to critical spatial practice. As a core member of the M ARCH team, you will support the Course Leader in the delivery, development, learning and teaching culture of the whole Course, deputising for the Course Leader when required, and supporting the Course Leader in driving the identity and culture of the course. The role will involve the coordination and management of Core Units in the M ARCH course including responsibility for the design, development and delivery of the curriculum, and the day-to-day management including all areas of learning, teaching and assessment of students.

About you

We’re looking for highly qualified architects and spatial design practitioners who have practical experience and knowledge of the architecture and design industry. You will have experience of teaching architecture at HE level, as well as experience contributing to the long-term planning and development of learning programmes, preferably with experience in innovating through forms of teaching delivery and pedagogy. You will be a designer, regarded as a leading authority in your field of specialism both with internal and external peers, with sufficient subject knowledge to teach both design and aspects of the supporting professional/technical curriculum. You will be an effective leader, able to motivate your staff team, and to build and maintain positive relationships with students, in order to actively contribute to building the distinctive identity of the course.

In return, University of the Arts London offers generous leave, an attractive pension and a commitment to your continuing personal development and training in an environment that encourages excellence, creativity and diversity. Relocation assistance is available.

What we offer

We are UAL

Central Saint Martins is a world-leading centre for arts and design education.  Its reputation stems from the creative energy of its staff and students and the stellar achievements of its graduates nationally and internationally.  The nine programmes at CSM explore the boundaries of their discipline.  Students and staff are continually alert to new ideas, and are curious and restless in developing beyond the expected norms of their subject, so emerging work is at the forefront of its area.  CSM sits at the heart of London’s creative scene, and of one of Europe’s most dynamic new culture and innovation quarters at King’s Cross, making the college increasingly important to London’s cultural life, and indicative of our general desire to open up CSM to as broad an audience as possible.

M Arch Architecture is part of the College’s Spatial Practices Programme. As one of the nine programmes at CSM, our courses focus on the production of space, expanding the emphasis from the design of physical space alone, to interventions in the processes of its production. This approach is delivered through the use of live and self-directed projects in the curriculum that engage creatively with cities, their citizens, and the constraints and conditions of the real world. The Programme aims to equip students with the creative and critical skills to carve new pathways into practice, providing the tools to engage productively and, where necessarily, disruptively with the architectural profession and beyond.
