The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join UAL’s growing Counselling and Health Advice Service. We are investing in the management capacity of the team to help us respond to students’ complex needs and to enhance services. 

You will work in partnership with the team’s other Counselling Manager to co-ordinate counselling support across the University. You will hold a caseload and provide advice and consultancy to colleagues, including responding to complex and urgent situations. Alongside this, you will manage a team of counsellors and coordinate service service delivery at half of the University’s colleges. You will work with the Service management team and other colleagues, leading initiatives to enhance our wellbeing offers. You will also be part of the duty management team. During term-time, this includes working remotely on Saturday mornings once a month.  

About you

You will have successful experiencing of managing people and services and working collaboratively to achieve objectives within a multidisciplinary team. You will be an experienced and counsellor, who understands the specific needs of university students.

You will be able to assess students and have a good working knowledge of brief work approaches and interventions to alleviate mental health symptoms and promote wellbeing. You will have a flexible and responsive approach and excellent communication skills. You will be able to hold and manage risk within appropriate boundaries.
