The opportunity

The Language Development Programme at University of the Arts London offers English language classes and tutorials to non-native English speaking students studying on main courses at the University’s colleges. Around half of the University’s students come from outside the UK so the Language Development Programme is extensive and forms part of a wider International Student   Experience Programme, designed to support both staff and students to get the   most from this highly multinational context.

The Head of Language Development is responsible   for the day to day delivery of the Language Development Programme with   special emphasis on academic management, administration, and communication   with all stakeholders (including students, tutors, academic and other University Services and college staff), as well as academic standards, student   assessment and staff induction, appraisal and development. You will line manage the Language Development Tutor Team and report directly to the Associate Dean International Student Experience.

You will form part of the academic management team with the other Language Centre Heads and Co-ordinators of Programme and support the Associate Dean International Student Experience and Language Centre Business Manager in the day to day management of the department.

You will actively contribute to the enhancement, monitoring and review of the quality of learning and teaching and student progress, and work in   support of UAL Strategic Priorities, particularly in relation to the International Student Experience and attainment. Your main challenge will be maximising the impact of the Language Development and International Student Experience Programmes.

About you

You will have extensive experience teaching and assessing English for Academic Purposes in the higher education sector as well as familiarity with standards in EAP delivery and with the BALEAP and AUK (British Council) accreditation schemes.

You will have academic management and administrative experience and be committed to delivering a high quality experience for both students and staff.

You will be actively engaged in the EAP teaching sector and be able to evidence this through attendance at conferences and/or production of research or academic papers.

You are a creative thinker able to apply innovative approaches to practical problems. You enjoy meeting new people and are able to communicate in a compelling way to a variety of audiences.
