The main purpose of the role is to take the lead on the delivery of income generation and knowledge exchange operations for Central Saint Martins across a wide range of activities. The role has overall responsibility for the continued successful development of the Innovation and Business department and its constituent parts including: sponsored student projects, graduate consultancy, local engagement, event sponsorship and commercial hires. The holder will need to develop new areas of activity and engage with new partners – and also to work across Central Saint Martins to help translate strategic innovation, business and other initiatives into core teaching, knowledge exchange or research activities.

Central Saint Martins is a world-leading centre for arts and design education.  Its reputation stems from the creative energy of its staff and students and the stellar achievements of its graduates nationally and internationally.  The nine programmes at CSM explore the boundaries of their discipline.  Students and staff are continually alert to new ideas, and are curious and restless in developing beyond the expected norms of their subject, so emerging work is at the forefront of its area.  CSM sits at the heart of London’s creative scene, and of one of Europe’s most dynamic new culture and innovation quarters at King’s Cross, making the college increasingly important to London’s cultural life, and indicative of our general desire to open up CSM to as broad an audience as possible. 

 

The Innovation and Business department at CSM plays a vital role in both income generation and the development of knowledge exchange activity; it generates a substantial income that directly benefits the students and courses, as well as extending the college’s reach into industry and public institutions. 

We are looking for someone who has experience of both the Higher Education environment, and engagement with industry and public institutions. You should have a clear financial acumen and awareness of developing trends in innovation in business. You should have experience of working across a broad range of people both internal to organisations, and external facing. You should preferably come from or have experience of the arts and design, and of the creative industries. A job share would be considered.
