The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the Design School at London College of Communication, with a group of socially and critically engaged experimental practitioners and researchers. Our new Manifesto, written by staff from across the Design School through collaborative document editing, underlines our commitment to design as a site of action and agency to radically transform our world. The academic portfolio consists of courses in graphic design communication; interaction design and visual communication; and branding and design innovation and has over seventeen hundred students at undergraduate, postgraduate and research degree levels. Staff are engaged in practice-based and theoretical design research, knowledge exchange and pedagogy with a focus on interrogating and materialising the politics of networked technologies, service design, user experience design, sustainability and social innovation, and design histories and futures.

You will support the Dean of Design in the strategic planning and effective operation of the School, working on projects assigned by the Dean and deputising, where appropriate. Key responsibilities include student satisfaction, progression, retention and attainment, the implementation of UAL teaching, assessment and learning policies, Quality Assurance, monitoring processes and academic administration across the portfolio. You will also work with Dean of Academic Development and Strategy and other College and School Associate Deans to achieve this. You will be a member of the Design School Management Team and LCC College Operational Group and liaise with the Associate Dean of Research, the Director of International Development and the Director of Business and Innovation to foster collaboration and links across the relevant areas.

About you

With a relevant postgraduate qualification or equivalent, you will have extensive professional knowledge and experience in one of the School’s academic disciplines and in quality assurance policy, processes and procedures; and successful experience of shaping, influencing and managing projects and initiatives. You will have a ‘can do’ approach, excellent communication skills, and the ability to motivate others and foster highly effective, cross-team working. A proven track record of being innovative in your professional practice, being effective at planning and managing operational activities and large projects to achieve long term objectives is essential.
