The opportunity

We seek a specialist in virtual & Realtime production with an interest in 3D computer animation to teach 3D animation virtual production development on the MA 3D computer animation course. The role requires teaching and assessing of coursework. We are looking for someone with solid experience in the field of 3D and/or VFX and with a demonstration in industry standard Virtual production. There will be opportunity for the successful candidate to contribute to the development of curriculum. Due to the industry specialism of these skills, there is room for entirely remote lecturing to work around industry hours if you are currently in industry employment.

Your main responsibility will be to collaborate with the MA 3D animation course leader on the preparation, teaching, administration and assessment of developing for virtual and Realtime production. You will make a significant contribution to the quality of learning and support our students in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully.

  • Python and MEL scripting


You will work closely with other academic staff, including the Programme Director.

About you

The ideal candidates will have worked or are currently working with 3D software in animation or related industries (e.g. gaming, engineering, architecture, product prototyping, visual effects, VR). You will have a good understanding of the 3D animation pipeline and be proficient in and willing to teach industry standard software, such as Maya, 3D equalizer, Nuke, Adobe Creative Suite, Arnold and Ftrack. The role requires delivery of technical workshops, tutorials, seminar and lectures for one or more of the software above on the collaborative 3D animation and Thesis units, and also marking and assessing of coursework. Experience of working with higher education students and enhancing the student experience as well as connections to the industry are desirable. Candidates will be expected to have a degree in a relevant field.

The MA 3D computer animation is a practice-led course which seeks to develop technical computing skills, animation, editing and interaction with VFX content, and culminates in preparing students for integrated roles in the VFX and animation industry.
