The opportunity

We are looking to recruit an academic in Communications and Media with a focus on Contemporary Media Cultures. You will join our team of established academics and industry practitioners working across the Communications and Media programme. Other courses in the programme include undergraduate and postgraduate courses in: Advertising, Media Communications, Public Relations, and Media, Communications and Critical Practice.

The role requires expertise in digital screen cultures, a broad topic incorporating digital media, digital platforms, digital economy, data, screen and mobile media studies. Your own expertise should be in at least one of these areas with an interest in how they intersect in media content, industries, audience practices and culture. Experience in research and/or practice practice-based dissertation supervision welcomed. Successful applicants will also be able to demonstrate a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in media.

You will proactively contribute to pedagogic and curriculum development that stimulate thought and practice that challenge the canon of media communications with the aim of promoting diversity and inclusivity, and have an ability to work as part of a team.

You will have teaching experience in Higher Education and have a proven track record of delivering high quality student experience. As an associate lecturer you will take responsibility for teaching and learning on relevant units including assessment, marking, and coordination with course and unit teams. You will have experience of providing academic and pastoral support to students, of monitoring student progress and maintaining appropriate records. You will have or be willing to study for a relevant teaching qualification.

About you

You will bring an advanced knowledge of your subject area and be able to apply this through innovative pedagogy, knowledge exchange and/or research. A PhD (or near to completion) or equivalent relevant industry experience is essential. You will have a strong commitment to the advancement of your field.
