The opportunity

We are looking for a Programme Director for our Acting and Performance Programme at Wimbledon College of Arts. The Programme was created in 2018 under the direction of Professor Adrian Kear, with a highly ambitious and creative academic vision aimed at re-imagining the teaching of Acting and Performance in an Art School context. With a full cohort of students now in place, the time is right for a dynamic practitioner-academic to lead an exciting and progressive programme team in the next phase of our development.

The role of Programme Director is key in shaping, leading and delivering the overall academic direction of their subject area. They have direct responsibility for the courses and staffing withing their programme, as well as contributing to the wider academic strategy for the School and College. The Programme Director for Acting and Performance is responsible for the academic leadership and management of the programme and its courses, which currently comprises:

  • BA Acting and Performance
  • BA Contemporary Theatre and Performance
  • MA Performance: Politics and Philosophy (starting Sept 2022)
  • MA Performance: Theatre Making (starting Sept 2022)

You will oversee the day to day management of the Programme including learning, teaching and assessment, as well as resource management and staffing. You will bring a collegiate approach to leadership to enable and support Course Leaders to anticipate change and address current challenges, issues and debates surrounding social justice, climate emergency, decolonising the curriculum, and the post pandemic context.

Collaboration is key, and this role will work closely with the Professors of Theatre and Performance and the Programme Director for Performance Design and Technologies, to jointly develop the Performance provision at Wimbledon College of Arts.

Closing date: 23.55 hours Thursday 30 September 2021

Interviews will take place on: Wednesday 13 October 2021

About you

You will be an experienced educator and leader with a profile and proven track record relating to your practice, research or other scholarly or professional activity relating to acting and performance. You should have experience of managing and motivating teams and dealing with complex institutional and/or professional contexts, including issues of finance, HR and the implementation of academic and University policies and procedures. You are a strong and effective communicator who is collaborative and empathetic in the way you engage with others.

You will be able to demonstrate engagement with the post pandemic context and the social justice agenda, and their implications for the development, direction and priorities for the Programme and its courses.
