The opportunity

The Screen School at London College of Communication is looking to recruit a Course Leader to lead and manage academic delivery, development and student learning experience of the MA Documentary Film

The MA Documentary Film course resides within the Film and Television programme portfolio that includes, BA (Hons) Film and Television, BA (Hons) Film Practice, BA (Hons) Television and Live Events Production, BA (Hons) Film and Screen Studies, MA Film, MA Television and MA Screenwriting.

The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to teaching as well managing curriculum delivery and development, assessment, quality and recruitment. The Course Leader will establish and enhance professional, academic and research partnerships. The appointed candidate will work under the direction of the Programme Director and alongside the other course leaders to deliver the course and contribute to School, College and University initiatives including research.

About you

We are looking for an innovative practitioner/researcher with significant experience and knowledge of documentary filmmaking in both a professional and academic context.

You will be regarded as a leading authority, nationally and internationally within your own area. You will be familiar with a broad range of documentary films and understand the ways in which successful documentary proposals and films are developed and delivered.

You will have ability to engage students with key historic and theoretical issues relating to documentary studies and practice-based learning, be able to motivate students to think creatively, critically and carry their ideas into production, and offer constructive and timely feedback on the research, creative, technical, ethical aspects of the documentary process. You will demonstrate an ability to teach and motivate a diverse student population and guide them to further research or professional careers. You will promote relationships with professional organizations to provide students with access for networking, collaborative opportunities for research and employability.

You will demonstrate excellent administrative, managerial and organisational skills relevant to the requirements of course delivery and development within an academic, research and professional context, actively engage with student recruitment and possess good interpersonal skills with ability to lead, manage and work alongside full and part time staff. You will have relevant undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications and/or extensive practice in documentary filmmaking.
