The opportunity

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work as the Project Manager of Afterall. Afterall is a Research Centre of University of the Arts London, founded in 1998 by Charles Esche and Mark Lewis. Afterall focuses on contemporary art and its relation to a wider artistic, theoretical and social context.

To manage the Afterall office and its administration based at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London and to implement development of the project in liaison with its Director, institutional research partners, including Asia Art Archive; the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College; The Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp; the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design, University of Toronto; and NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore, and to implement the development of Exhibition Histories with the Associate Director. Please note, this role is 0.6/0.8 full-time equivalent, subject to negotiation. 

About you

You will be an experienced manager who has previously worked within an academic environment and will have extensive knowledge of contemporary art and its support networks, from patrons to major funding bodies. The successful candidate will:

  • Be educated to degree level 
  • Be experienced in working in an academic or arts environment, in office management and in financial procedures
  • Communicate effectively orally, in writing and in using visual and social media
  • Be experienced in managing staff
  • Work on own initiative and support others in their work
  • Contribute to advancing professional practice and staff development
  • Plan, prioritise and organise work to achieve objectives on time
  • Be able to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Be actively involved in updating and improving office practices and solving problems as they arise
