The opportunity

An exciting new lecturer vacancy has arisen in the Theatre & Screen programme at Wimbledon College of Arts, within the subject area of BA Costume for Theatre and Screen. This opportunity occurs during an expansion of academic development within the subject areas of Theatre and Performance at UAL’s colleges Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon

This new course at Wimbledon BA (Hons) Costume for Theatre and Screen has been developed from our successful and popular pathways of Costume Interpretation and Design. Delivery starts in October and UCAS accepts indicate that recruitment will exceed our expectations.

As a lecturer within the Costume for Theatre and Screen team, you will be responsible for contributing to and developing the new course’s academic direction and delivery including the two outgoing Costume Pathways over the next two years.

To compliment the current team’s academic portfolio, we are particularly interested in applicants with specialist experience in costume making and interpretation skills.

Student experience is at the heart of what we do at Wimbledon and your professional skills within costume will inform and motivate our students’ practice and learning opportunities.

With a suitable, professional manner you will be an agile collaborator within the team. Your specialist and generalist knowledge will contribute to both the new costume course and the wider Theatre and Screen academic profile. Your knowledge and skills will ensure subject relevance, currency and innovation in the subject area. The post holder will take on the responsibility of Unit Leader, undertaking the associated administration and quality assurance related to the delivery of specified unit(s). You will be required to work closely and professionally with students and staff members at all levels. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of the course and wider programme portfolio when required. Duties will involve any associated administration and quality assurance to ensure the smooth running of BA (Hons) Costume for Theatre and Screen.

About you

The ideal candidate will have:

· a background in costume, holding a degree and a postgraduate qualification in a related subject area or equivalent demonstrated through practice

· recognised teaching qualification

· knowledge and experience of the costume subject,  industry and research context

· experience of teaching at undergraduate level, assessment and student feedback

· experience of the associated administrative and quality requirements

· experience of curriculum development and management (ideal).

· excellent communication skills

· the ability to collaborate as part of an academic team as well as contributing to the wider Theatre & Screen, Wimbledon and UAL communities.

We are particularly interested in candidates that demonstrate making skills, knowledge of these and show aptitude in innovation or research such as using new technologies within the subject area of costume/body architecture.

In return, University of the Arts London offers generous leave, an attractive pension scheme and a commitment to your continuing personal development and training in an environment that encourages excellence, creativity and diversity.  Relocation assistance is available.
