The opportunity

This is a chance to join a growing business in the emerging discipline of online education. You will be responsible for maintaining, developing and improving the front-end of our online learning system, and so will have the potential to improve the learning experience for thousands of learners around the world.

Our learning platform is a customised version of the popular Mahara open source system. We develop it jointly with developers and web services professionals in other departments of the University, and so this role will require close communication and collaboration. You will be responsible for a front-end sub-module of the main code base, which is customised with SASS and Jquery. You will develop improvements for users, whilst keeping the sub-module aligned with the main code base, and managing through regular version updates.

You will also be the top-level technical support staff member in the team, investigating technical issues, fixing front end issues, and routing back end issues to relevant central IT colleagues.

About you

You will be an experienced front end developer, with an expert knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, Jquery, SASS, and Gulp, and familiarity with Github. You will also have good design skills, and be familiar with Adobe PS and wireframing tools. Experience of working in education environments, or on educational projects would also be a great benefit.

In addition to your technical expertise, we are looking for someone who has excellent oral and written communication skills, and a positive and helpful approach to customer service. And you will enjoy working in a small team environment in a large creative organisation.

In return, University of the Arts London offers generous leave, an attractive pension and a commitment to your continuing personal development and training in an environment that encourages excellence, creativity and diversity. Relocation assistance is available.
