The opportunity

In this key role within the Performance Programme at London College of Fashion, you will be responsible for the academic leadership and management of the successful, and highly regarded BA (HONS) Costume for Performance Course.

Costume for Performance at LCF has a a high level of student satisfaction, excellent attainment and graduate destinations, and has enjoyed international success with recent exhibitions in Prague, Russia, Taiwan, and New Zealand. We are looking for strong and committed Course Leader who is now able to take this programme into the future and enhance the student experience for a diverse and international community of learners.

The Course Leader will also teach and collaborate across the Performance Programme and will serve as year three tutor.  

The Course Leader should have a demonstrable sound solid knowledge of historical, and innovative, costume design, costume construction, and costume in performance.

Responsibilities will include the day to day management of all areas of learning, teaching, and assessment of students as well as managing resources for the BA (HONS) Costume for Performance Course.  

The ability to manage their time and ensure the student experience is maintained through regular, clear, communication, in both digital and physical forms is required for this role.

The Course Leader will ensure students studying at Lime Grove have a successful experience, but also now work to prepare for our move to our purpose built site in Stratford in 2022.

They will contribute to, and lead on the process of course development, modifications, quality assurance, validation and review by the University in liaison with the Programme Director.  Therefore a solid, and demonstrable understanding of course leadership is essential. A commitment to the process of educational leadership and an understanding of management in the HE context is required for this role.

About you

With a relevant degree and substantial industry experience, the Course Leader will have the ability to lead the professional development of the subject area, of Costume for Performance. 

The appointed candidate will require industry experience which could include working within TV, Film, Fashion, Live Performance, and Theatre. 

The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching in Higher Education, a recognised teaching qualification (or be willing to study for one), and have an in-depth knowledge of both costume design, and costume construction.  

The Course Leader may also have an interest in, experience of, or being willing to develop your knowledge of, dance and movement, collaboration, devising, dramaturgy, textual analysis, interdisciplinary performance, innovation in performance, enterprise, and entrepreneurship.

Extensive experience and links with current costume industries.

An excellent teacher who has a strong desire to work with students, create projects, and maintain the highest standards in education.

A clear, confident, and compassionate communicator.

Proficient IT skills and accomplished administration skills.

The ability to build productive working relationships and create impact.

The Course Leader will have the ability to motivate, collaborate, and make things happen to improve student satisfaction.

A commitment to the history of costume, and a passionate interest in its future is essential to the role.  

The successful post holder will be an outstanding problem solver, with excellent analytical skills to identify areas for development, and to implement the plans to make change happen.

It is expected that the successful applicant will become a mental health first aider within the first year of appointment and demonstrate a commitment to diversity and understand their role and responsibility in making change within both HE and the industry.
