The opportunity

This is a unique role, working on a unique course with students of diverse interests, and demands a brave and broad perspective from all participants. The post-holder will have responsibility for delivering high quality theory and practice-based units, specialising in television, on the BA (Hons) Live Events and Television course, and potentially other related programmes. This will include teaching, unit management, and curriculum development, pastoral care, research and dissertation supervision across the field of live events and television. Understanding that students interests are broader than standard television production is vital and will need to be embraced to support innovative ways of working. The course links television and live events through transferrable skills, such as creative direction and producing, production design, production management and technical crafts (camera, light, sound). You will support student projects that cover all stages of the process, from ‘pre’ through to ‘post’ production. Enabling students to become producers, designers or production managers, with holistic understanding of the broad field of live events and television, is the primary teaching focus. The post-holder will need to share knowledge of current communication technologies that support production and guide students in the development of ideas, industry relevant skills in research, thought processing, problem solving, and collaborative and sustainable practice. The post-holder will aim to inspire innovation and entrepreneurial practice with a grounded understanding of standards, work ethics and the audience as a market force.

About you

We are looking for an experienced industry practitioner who is innovative and interested in new ways of working. We seek someone with experience of higher education teaching practice, or relevant experience of working with students. Applicants should have a broad experience of television practice, and also the skills to facilitate teaching the practical aspects of production processes to support this subject of television (in the broadest sense). You will need to demonstrate that you can work effectively as a course team member and with others on collaborative projects. You have, and will maintain links to, professional practice, and will seek to develop industry partnerships for the benefit of the student and staff experience, and be able to inspire students to form industry links. You will also need to be prepared to undertake the pastoral care duties associated with the role of a year tutor.

In return, University of the Arts London offers generous leave, an attractive pension scheme and a commitment to your continuing personal development and training in an environment that encourages excellence, creativity and diversity. Relocation assistance is available.
