The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to assist in the development, delivery and exploitation of high quality and customer-focused archive services at the University of the Arts London (UAL), which support the learning, teaching and research activities of its colleges. In particular, to participate in the day-to-day organisation and delivery of services within the University’s Archives and Special Collections Centre and to work with archives and special collections across the University’s sites.

Contributing to the day-to-day operations of the University Archives and Special Collections Centre you will supervise and support users of the archive and assist with enquiries. You will contribute to the development and delivery of educational activities such as inductions, academic support sessions and tailored learning sessions for specific courses in liaison with relevant departments across the university. 

You will contribute to the care and management of archive and special collections across the University of the Arts London and will participate in an ongoing programme to catalogue archive collections in line with recognised archival practice, e.g. ISAD(g) and EAD and other nationally recognised standards, in liaison with the Archives and Special Collections Centre Manager and Assistant Manager.

You will assist with the promotion of archives and collections using social media and blogs, and support the curation of internal and external loans. You will also supervise volunteers in accordance with the Centre's volunteering policies and procedures and as directed by the Archives and Special Collections Centre Manager. 


 

About you

You will have either a postgraduate qualification in Archives and Records Management, or equivalent experience of work in an archive and demonstrable knowledge and experience of working to international standards in cataloguing and collections care.

You will have experience of working in an archive and supporting the diverse needs of a range of archive users.

You will create realistic plans to achieve the agreed deadlines and objectives of the role and will be able to work collaboratively as part of a team with colleagues and across different professional groups. 

You will have excellent oral and written communication skills and will use your professional knowledge to support excellent teaching, pedagogy and inclusivity.
