The opportunity

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant to join the team for the Mistra Future Fashion Phase 2 Project, based at Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London. The project is part of the Mistra Future Fashion consortium – a cross-disciplinary program with the vision of closing the loop in fashion and creating systemic change in Swedish industry and culture. The research program started in 2011, and Phase 2 (2015 – 2019) focuses on the circular economy and innovation within design, supply chain, consumer behaviour and recycling practices.

We are seeking an outstanding, enthusiastic and ambitious researcher, ready to undertake collaborative research in designing fashion textiles for the circular economy that perform with different life cycle speeds. You will assist the team in the development, design and delivery of new materials and textile products, which will perform in specific closed loop systems.

You will support the development and delivery workshops with practitioners, exploring how circular design research can be embedded within an industrial context, and transcribe and analyse project data. You will contribute to key events and dissemination activities, in the UK and occasionally abroad, and will contribute to research outputs and publications.

About you

You will have a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field, such as material innovation or textiles. You will have a good working knowledge of life cycle design, material properties and fashion, with experience of working with fashion textiles.

You will have experience of collaborative research, as well as competence in a range of qualitative and quantitative research and analysis methods. You will be self-motivated and have a keen interest in the role of fashion textiles in the circular economy.

In return, University of the Arts London offers generous leave, an attractive pension and a commitment to your continuing personal development and training in an environment that encourages excellence, creativity and diversity. Relocation assistance is available.
