The opportunity
Do you have a passion for Graphic Design and want to help our current cohort of students on their journey to develop practical, employment, digital, creative and problem-solving skills as part of a team of technical staff, the academic team and other specialists and practitioners?
We are looking for two Support Technicians to assist across our Graphic Design Studios, one be based at Camberwell Colleges of Arts and one at Chelsea College of Arts -
Technicians are an integral part of the realisation of students’ work: their knowledge and experience enable students to experiment and learn about traditional making techniques and how they relate to inform today’s methods, processes and practices of communication.
About you
You will need a relevant qualification in art or design, or equivalent industry experience, as well as a good understanding of graphic design practice. Knowledge of analogue, digital and practical making, printing and production is also essential. You will need to be familiar with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator (so you can assist students in trouble shooting and ensuring they can follow taught sessions) and understand the technicalities of lens based photo and video production.
Knowledge of health and safety policy would be helpful, as would previous experience of working in a Higher Education environment.
The more knowledge you have about printing the better as you will be helping students produce outputs on laser printers, inkjet printers, large format printers, RISO printers and 3D printers, and could also be assisting with traditional methods such as screen printing, transfer printing, bookbinding and book arts.
You should possess effective and adaptable communication skills, a good working knowledge of Mac OS & Windows operating systems, and the ability to manage calendars, planning tools and engage in effective timetabling.
If you have any queries about the application process or need any reasonable adjustments for your application, please contact jobs.ccw@arts.ac.uk
