The opportunity

We are looking to recruit an Associate Lecturer to teach on the M-Arch in Architecture Course, based in the Spatial Practices Department at Central Saint Martins. You will teach 25-30 students, preparing for and delivering structured learning experiences including classes, tutorials, workshops and studio critiques. As part of the course team, you will prepare and participate in formative and summative assessment.  Specifically you will be leading on the delivery of Unit 3: Construction in Detail, a seven week long (20 credit) summer unit focusing on technical aspects of making and construction in close detail. The intensive summer unit will be taught through group work and involves hands on fabrication using the CSM workshops, skilling students in fabrication techniques, material and construction research, sampling and prototyping at 1:1 scale or similar.

About you

You will be a highly creative and motivated individual who is active in your specialist field and preferably has experience of delivering high quality learning experiences within Further and/or Higher Education. An effective communicator, confident in your ability to deal with a large and diverse student cohort, you'll be good at working collaboratively in a team, bringing ideas and approaches to teaching and learning to support excellent pedagogy. You will have a special interest in making, material cultures and architectural construction techniques as part of an iterative and experimental design approach.

Timeline

To find out more about the role and how the Unit sits within the overall course structure, please join us for an afternoon presentation and tour of CSM on Wednesday the 20th of March at 5.30pm. Please book a place by sending an email to the CSM Staffing Team (jobenquiries@csm.arts.ac.uk). The deadline for applications is Monday 25th of March. Interviews will take place on April 3rd 2019.

The Unit will take place between 24th June and 9th August 2019, any successful applicant could be given additional, future hours outside that date range.

What we offer

We are UAL

Central Saint Martins is a world-leading centre for arts and design education. Its reputation stems from the creative energy of its staff and students and the stellar achievements of its graduates nationally and internationally. The nine programmes at CSM explore the boundaries of their discipline. Students and staff are continually alert to new ideas, and are curious and restless in developing beyond the expected norms of their subject, so emerging work is at the forefront of its area. CSM sits at the heart of London’s creative scene, and of one of Europe’s most dynamic new culture and innovation quarters at King’s Cross, making the college increasingly important to London’s cultural life, and indicative of our general desire to open up CSM to as broad an audience as possible.
