The opportunity

This position is based within the University’s Student Advice Service and is based at our College sites or at the Student Centre. In this varied and challenging role you will be providing information, advice and guidance to students across the University.

As part of your day-to-day work you can expect to deal with general student support enquiries, but will focus particularly on student financial and immigration advice. You will help students with relevant procedures; liaise with other organisations, such as the Student Loans Company and the Home Office; and make referrals on to other specialist teams in the University or in external organisations.

About you

We are looking for an analytical and methodical problem-solver with excellent communication skills, able to be both quick-thinking and thorough, and with the ability to work independently. These skills and qualities will probably have been gained within a similar information setting or advisory role, in a similar environment in education or externally in advice agencies.

You are not expected to be an expert on every issue that you might face, but it is essential that you have a good understanding of the student finance regulations and the student immigration rules, relevant application procedures and specific student support arrangements. Where your knowledge falls short you must be able to identify the right people, agencies and organisations that students need. An enhanced DBS check is required for this post.
