The opportunity

The Diploma in Professional Studies (DPS) is an optional Industrial placement year between the second and fourth year of all undergraduate courses in the Design School at LCC. DPS offers students the opportunity to undertake placements, secondments, self-initiated/freelance projects, socially engaged and entrepreneurial activities within the year, working within an extensive and worldwide network of international private, public and third sector organisations.

The post-holder will be expected to undertake –

  • Innovative teaching in the context of professional design practice, placement opportunity, collaboration, live projects and self-initiated enterprise projects.

Development of industry relationships, communication channels and projects with UK and global professional and community partners. In particular, providing professional knowledge and expertise in areas relating the Design School’s undergraduate courses.

About you

We are looking for a new team member interested in ‘experiential’ education and the fascinating landscape of professional creative practice in the UK and internationally. The LCC DPS is a unique opportunity to explore a range of graduate opportunities a year before graduation, impacting a conventional design education in a radical and disruptive manner.  We are seeking applications from candidates with teaching experience and a passion for working individually, collaboratively and critically with students to support their professional and entrepreneurial ambitions. Working with Design school students from 8 different design BA courses, your remit will be to investigate and celebrate with students a new sense of agency and help give voice to a generation that is now shaping our design futures. Candidates must have an extensive understanding of the agile and dynamic creative industries across branding, UX, art direction, illustration, Service and Design Management and be able to broker relationships and manage live projects with a confident understanding of contemporary design issues and critical perspectives.

We are seeking candidates able to develop emerging opportunities, new ‘Ways of Working’ with a dynamic understanding of innovations in interdisciplinary practices, speculative and enterprising project prototyping, design activism, volunteering, launching start-ups.  A vital part of the role is to develop pedagogic methods that empower students to develop ethical and wide-ranging attributes, abilities and behaviours to sustain a rewarding professional life. The DPS team at LCC supports students to experience the professional workplace, build relationships with mentors and alumnus, develop as communicators with a range of enterprise skills, and determine a professional career strategy.
