Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global and also an interdisciplinary challenge. This research project takes a one health approach to the challenge of AMR in India to simultaneously engage and act in health, animal  agriculture and environmental settings. The DOSA project (Diagnostics for One Health and User Driven Solutions for AMR) takes an integrated approach to combine expertise including those from diagnostics innovation, adoption and validation with service design and design research methodologies and practices to address the AMR challenge.

We are seeking an outstanding, enthusiastic and ambitious postdoctoral research fellow:

  • To work collaboratively with the DOSA project team to guide and undertake design ethnographic work in India on current diagnostics practices and user behaviours behind antibiotic consumption in three antimicrobial resistant (AMR) environments.
  • To work with an inter-disciplinary team in the delivery of fieldwork methods and practices to the PG Indian research team.
  • To undertake a relevant literature review in relation to research into AMR in diagnostics pathways particularly in low to middle economies in healthcare, agriculture and aquaculture settings.
  • To visualise three diagnostic pathways for the use of antibiotics in three settings: 1) urinary tract infections in healthcare, 2) mastitis in cows, and 3) aquaculture.      
  • To create visual templates and prompts for fieldwork, data gathering and workshop activities with the Indian researchers.
  • To contribute to the development and delivery of co-design workshop activities with Indian Stakeholders around the three diagnostic pathways.
  • To contribute to the analysis of the challenges, strength and added value of deploying particular design and participatory approaches in AMR contexts in low to middle economic contexts.
  • To contribute to the synthesis of the qualitative research data especially around the implementation of co-designed prompts / touch-points.
  • To support the communication of the project through social media and a research blog.

You will have relevant experience of service design, design ethnography, co-design and prototyping at PG and Doctoral Level. In addition you will an interest social design in lower-to-middle income countries. You will be expected to be confident in Adobe Creative Suite Software and to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
