The opportunity

Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration and assessment of student work across the MA Illustration & Visual Media course. You will make a significant contribution to the quality of learning and the support students receive in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully. You will also work with the Course Leader, students and colleagues across the college in promoting and developing the subject through conferences, public exhibitions and other contributions to research and knowledge exchange. You bring your own research and/or practice to bear on the development of the subject and the course.

About you

You will have previous experience of teaching in Higher Education or comparable context, and in delivering a high quality student experience, as well as some knowledge of curriculum development and assessment. You should be comfortable working with a diverse cohort of students and committed to an inclusive teaching approach that integrates theory and practice and will engage students through a combination of innovative pedagogy, knowledge exchange and/or research.

You should have a strong understanding of the contemporary context of illustration and image making in an academic and/or professional context, and be engaged in relevant networks and communities of practice within this and/or related fields. You will be proactive and actively contribute to the course and programme’s aims and vision.

You will have a strong commitment to the advancement of your field and critical discourse in illustration and image making practices.

You should bring an understanding of tools, methods and processes used in contemporary image making and an understanding of the role of tools and technical skills in a post-graduate academic context. You should also be invested in keeping your knowledge in this area current and up-to-date. 

You should be confident managing a diverse workload and co-ordinating and delivering sessions including lectures, workshops and tutorials, as well as working with specialists feeding into the course – such as industry experts, language development, academic support or technical teams.
