The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the leadership of the Library and Student Support Services Directorate and to contribute to the development and implementation of the Library and Student Support Strategy, 2018 - 2021.

You will lead the strategic development, management and delivery of information resources and content discovery tools, ensuring they align with teaching, learning and research activities across the University and provide a high quality student experience within an accessible and inclusive environment. You will have specific responsibility for library collections, including archives and special collections, and scholarly communications. You will also oversee the core business systems and digital infrastructure for Library Services. You will line manage the Resources and Systems Manager, the Archives and Special Collections Centre Manager and the Scholarly Communications Manager.

You will be a member of the Library and Student Support Leadership Team, and act as chair of the Content and Discovery Management Team for Library Services. You will participate in relevant Directorate and University committees and groups as well as being active in professional networks.

Current projects you will lead or contribute to include: diversifying and decolonising collections; reviewing and enhancing content discovery tools; implementing a digital ecosystem for archives and special collections; monitoring and participating in repository developments for practice-based research.

About you

With a degree or post-graduate qualification in Library and Information Studies (or equivalent), you will have proven expertise in leading and managing collection development and content discovery at a strategic and policy level. You will have experience of working within higher education and be able to demonstrate knowledge of current educational developments as well as current developments within academic librarianship. You will be an effective team leader and a compelling communicator with an ability to inspire, advocate, influence and engage others. You will be able to effectively plan, prioritise and manage the delivery of complex projects or activities to achieve long term objectives, applying innovative approaches to your work where this is appropriate.
