The opportunity

We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to help deliver an exciting new multi-disciplinary collaborative research programme: The Business of Fashion, Textiles & Technology (BFTT). Based at the London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London (UAL), you will work with the Principal Investigator, Professor Jane Harris and with industry partners, Holition on a key project focusing on Future retail and consumer experiences.  The Fellow will lead the development of a tracking and visualisation tool to be built using Holition’s proprietary augmented reality software.  You will have a strong focus on machine learning, with particular interest in technologies such as neural networks and Generative Adversarial Networks.

About you

You have a Doctoral qualification in computer science or related discipline. You will have a deep understanding of: maths / machine learning / AI techniques, strong programming skills (C / C++, Python and relevant frameworks such as TensorFlow), problem-solving and debugging abilities, strong experience of OpenCV and other third party library algorithms, OpenGL and/or DirectX, Microsoft Windows and/or Mac OSX using Visual Studio and/or xCode. You will also have hands-on experience in image processing development, working with GANs, and of writing research reports, bidding for research funding, publishing and disseminating research outcomes.


Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • to lead the development of a tracking and visualisation tool to be built using Holition’s proprietary augmented reality software.
  • to manage code stores/repositories and coordinate integrations.
  • to recommend appropriate hardware for integration and deployment of the software.
  • to work closely with Chief Technology Officer and Chief Software Architect from Holition in design of software architecture and choices of 3rd party dependencies.
  • to liaise between London College of Fashion, Holition and all external partners on the project to ensure that development is in line with project expectations.

Essential skills include:

  • Deep understanding of Maths / Machine learning / AI techniques demonstrated through a PhD in Computer Science (or related discipline).
  • Strong programming skills (C / C++, Python and relevant frameworks such as TensorFlow).
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging abilities.
  • Strong experience and understanding of OpenCV and other third party library algorithms.
  • Experience with OpenGL and/or DirectX.
  • Able to work on Microsoft Windows and/or Mac OSX using Visual Studio and/or xCode.
  • Hands-on experience in image processing development.
  • An understanding of and experience working with GANs.
  • Experience of writing research reports, bidding for research funding, publishing and disseminating research outcomes.
