The opportunity

MA Graphic Communication Design is recruiting two Lecturers to work in collaboration with the Course Leader to develop and deliver curriculum across both years of the course, including a newly re-approved curriculum that will be delivered to incoming first-year students.

MA Graphic Communication Design explores how the production of knowledge is intertwined with its form, context, and circulation. Through iterative and open-ended experimentation with visual media and tools of communication, students develop work that investigates existing knowledge, activates positions, and projects new forms of knowledge—within and beyond the discipline.

MA Graphic Communication Design is part of the Graphic Communication Design Programme, which also includes BA Graphic Communication Design. You can view examples of recent student work and find out more about the course and the programme here:

The Lecturers will work alongside the Course Leader to:

•            support students in the development of independent, open-ended, and rigorous research practices;

•            support the development of critical and mature engagement in studio practice through attention to form and production;

•            help students contextualise their practice within the discipline and in broader discourses;

•            broaden the range of perspectives represented within the course through development of the reading list, course lecture series, and other curricular activities; and

•            provide pastoral support to students.

Many of these goals will be supported through a range of specific course projects, such as a lecture or workshop series, publication project, or curricular development project. The Lecturers will be asked to manage the resources, materials, and cooperative relationships relevant to these projects, either in collaboration with or as delegated by the Course Leader.

The Lecturers will also act as tutorial group leaders for the course (alongside Associate Lecturers). Each tutor takes primary responsibility for a small group of students, leading weekly tutorial sessions and guiding students’ development through the course curriculum.

This role offers the potential for meaningful development across many areas of academic practice.

A PhD is not required for this role, but we will consider it as additional evidence of rigorous and critical engagement with the field—as we will other relevant academic and professional experience.
