The opportunity
As part of UAL’s continued improvement plan for Information Services, they are seeking to invest in an experienced Senior Systems Administrator who will support the management, development and security of its Linux Server environment and team. As part of the Technical Services team you will be a subject matter expert for the Linux Server focusing on installations, configuration, and maintenance while ensuring that the performance and capacity of the infrastructure meets the University’s current and future needs in a cost effective manner. You will ensure IT services are successfully integrated and delivered and will work with various internal and external stakeholders across the University.
About you
- Strong experience of Linux server administration and configuration
- Experience of Shell scripting (Bash and Perl), and web services (Apache & Tomcat)
- Experience with automation tools including satellite and puppet
- Database installation experience (Ideally MySQL,MariaDB and Oracle)
- Previous work with virtualisation technologies (VMware, Veeam)
- Knowledge of server and storage configuration and networking protocols are seen as highly advantageous
Communication
- You will be a self-motivated and dynamic individual who is able to be adaptable and flexible and able to adjust to a new situations and environments
- Effective oral and written communication skills ,with a logical and sensible approach to tasks
- Ability to communicate with people at all levels, including the ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical users
