The opportunity

The Presessional Academic English Programme at University of the Arts London attracts up to 600 students per year, running primarily through the summer but with extensions at other times of the year. It is an intensive language and academic skills programme enabling progression of English language competence of between 0.5 and 1.5 IELTS bands equivalent. The Head of Presessional Programmes is responsible for the day to day delivery of the Programmes with special emphasis on academic management, communication with all stakeholders (including students, tutors and other staff, University Services and college staff, both academics and others, overseas agents), and administration, as well as academic standards, student assessment and staff induction, appraisal and development. You will report directly to the Associate Dean International Student Experience for all academic matters and to the Language Centre Business Manager to support commercial development of Presessional Programmes and their efficient operational delivery.

You will form part of the academic management team with the other Language Centre Heads of Programme and Co-ordinators and support the Associate Dean International Student Experience and Language Centre Business Manager in the day to day management of the department.

You will actively contribute to the enhancement, monitoring and review of the quality of learning and teaching and student progress, and work in support of UAL Strategic Priorities, particularly in relation to the International Student Experience and attainment.

About you

You will have extensive experience teaching and assessing English for Academic Purposes in the higher education sector as well as familiarity with standards   in EAP delivery and with the BALEAP accreditation scheme.

You will have academic management experience and be committed to delivering a high quality experience for both students and staff.

You will be actively engaged in the EAP teaching sector and be able to evidence   this through attendance at conferences and/or production of research or academic papers.

You are a creative thinker able to apply innovative approaches to practical problems. You enjoy meeting new people   and are able to communicate in a compelling way to a variety of audiences.
