The opportunity

We are seeking to appoint a half-time (0.5 FTE) Year Leader to join the MA Graphic Communication Design staff team. MAGCD is a 2 year (full–time extended mode) course that pursues a direct and in-depth connection between the ‘applied arts’ tradition of graphic design and a critical and creative approach to communication. The course resides within the Graphic Communication Design Programme and contributes to a broader subject community alongside BA (Honours) Graphic Communication Design. You will be joining a diverse international student and staff community.

In addition to bringing a distinct and nuanced subject perspective to the course leadership team, the appointed MAGCD Year Leader will take responsibility for day to day management of one cohort of MAGCD students including delivery of the curriculum and assessment, pastoral care, planning and organisation, facilitation of hourly paid staff, recruitment and admissions, induction, events and exhibitions. Together with the Course Leader and other Year Leader, you will contribute to the curriculum, academic mission, vision and enhancement, development, positioning and shaping of the course and the subject at a time of complex social, cultural and technological change.

About you

You will bring a dynamic and critical perspective on the future of graphic and communication design and a passion for the exploration. You have a postgraduate qualification, an established practice and professional profile in graphic or communication design, or a related discipline, and/or a commitment to research and engagement with current disciplinary and interdisciplinary debates. You have experience of teaching and leadership within a higher education environment. You thrive on challenges and can manage time, resources and complex workloads. You are committed to and passionate about teaching and learning and providing excellent student support. You bring creativity, agility and intelligence to your work as an educator, practitioner and advocate for this increasingly vital discipline.

In return, University of the Arts London offers generous leave, an attractive pension and a commitment to your continuing personal development and training in an environment that encourages excellence, creativity and diversity. Relocation assistance is available.

What we offer

We are UAL

Central Saint Martins is a world-leading centre for arts and design education.  Its reputation stems from the creative energy of its staff and students and the stellar achievements of its graduates nationally and internationally.  The nine programmes at CSM explore the boundaries of their discipline.  Students and staff are continually alert to new ideas, and are curious and restless in developing beyond the expected norms of their subject, so emerging work is at the forefront of its area.  CSM sits at the heart of London’s creative scene, and of one of Europe’s most dynamic new culture and innovation quarters at King’s Cross, making the college increasingly important to London’s cultural life, and indicative of our general desire to open up CSM to as broad an audience as possible.
