The opportunity

We regularly recruit Library Assistants for our weekend teams based across our six colleges, with different hours of employment ranging between 4.5 hours and 19 hours a week with some weekday contact hours required as part of the role.

 Currently, we have 7 term time only vacant posts working the following hours for up to 38 weeks a year. Any remaining hours are contact hours which are worked over the year by agreement with you, to accommodate weekday opening, plus staff training and development:

Central Saint Martins

1 X Weekend Library Assistant:             Saturday: 9.5 hours (09:45 – 20.15)

Sunday: 9.5 hours (09:45 – 20.15)

 

2 x Weekend Library Assistant:              Saturday: 9.5 hours (09.45-20.15)

 

London College of Communication

1 X Weekend Library Assistant: Saturday: 4.5 hours (15.45-20.15)

Sunday: 9.5 hours (09:45 – 20.15)

London College of Fashion

1 X Weekend Library Assistant:          Saturday: 5.75 hours (9.45 – 16.00)

As part of the weekend team, you will assist with the effective delivery of library services on your designated site. You will be instrumental in contributing to the development and delivery of high quality customer-focused services at the University by providing assistance to all students and ensuring its effective and timely delivery.  

You will participate in front-line services and administrative duties including support for self-issue systems, IT and printing.  You will assist users with directional and initial information enquiries; including the use of the library catalogue, electronic information resources and participate in roaming support. You will also be required to participate in shelving activities and demonstrate an understanding of manual handling guidelines which will be required when lifting heavy items.

As part of the requirement of the role, you may occasionally be required to work at any of the other UAL college libraries: Central St Martins, London College of Communication, London College of Fashion, Chelsea, Camberwell and Wimbledon.

 

About you

You should have relevant library or customer service experience, excellent communication skills both written and oral and be IT literate.  Working in a small team you will provide a positive and responsive customer service.
