The opportunity

The Design School is looking to recruit for a fix term a Lecturer to the BA Design Management course.

The course explores the strategic and cultural value of design theory and practice in the context of diverse organisations. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with innovative approaches to design management practice with focus on creative practice. The position invites applicants who are keen on the future facing development of the course, in particular fostering diverse design visual practices in the context of design management including a holistic and creative approach to design leadership and culture.

As lecturer you will be responsible to the Course Leader for delivery of the design management units across the course with particular focus on creative practice and strategic design and leadership in creative industries. You will bring research and/or industry expertise and network of contacts alongside teaching experience at undergraduate level. You will manage and participate in the delivery of student-centered teaching as well as make a significant contribution to pedagogic development of the course, assessment, quality management and recruitment.

About you

We are looking for an individual with a qualification at undergraduate and postgraduate level relevant to the subject of design management and leadership with particular focus on creative practice. You should have knowledge of methods for visual research and analysis, high level of digital proficiency and knowledge of experimental design practices/processes and familiarity with relevant software. You will also have comprehensive knowledge of learning and teaching in international contexts.

As an academic, previous teaching experience at undergraduate level is essential in addition to experience of professional practice as well as initiating partnerships and developing industry collaborative projects. You should also demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of design management as it intersects with social justice, climate emergency and other global social, cultural, environmental, political and economic forces that are transforming the design discipline.

The successful candidate should possess effective interpersonal skills and be a student-centred teacher focused on promoting diversity and inclusivity, while demonstrating strong communication and organisational skills. We are looking for applicants who can work collaboratively with colleagues to develop the subject area and share expertise.
