The opportunity

We are seeking to appoint a Mental Health Adviser - 6 month fixed term contract

The posts offer an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic, hard-working and experienced mental health professionals to join the Counselling and Health Advice Service.

You will work closely with your manager and colleagues to offer assessment, advice and support to students with mental health difficulties, so they can engage successfully with their studies and University life. You will provide advice and consultation to academic and support staff in colleges and halls of residences to respond to crises, manage risk concerns and support students to manage enduring mental health concerns. You will participate in activities to develop the service, to deliver training and to promote awareness of mental health and well-being.

About you

You will have a degree, a professional qualification in the field of mental health (RMN, DipSW) or equivalent) and professional experience of working with a range of mental health issues.

Your experience will include:-

  • undertaking assessments;
  • managing casework;
  • a strong track record of responding proactively to      crisis situations and of managing risk concerns;
  • knowledge and experience of signposting, making      referrals and assisting individuals to access specialist mental health      services
  • providing interventions to alleviate mental health      symptoms and to promote mental well-being,
  • developing and delivering training;
  • implementing preventative work to      promote mental well being and resilience and
  • working as part of a multi-disciplinary team,

 

 

You will have excellent communication skills, a flexible approach to work, and the ability to contain anxiety in yourself and others.
