The opportunity

BA Animation has 4 pathways: 3D Computer Animation; Animation Arts; Game Arts; Visual Effects. We are seeking a Nuke compositor, or someone with relevant Nuke experience to teach primarily into the 2nd year of the BA Hons Animation course with the potential to teach across all years and all pathways but with a particular emphasis on the Visual Effects pathway.

Your main responsibility will be offering second year students support and guidance with their projects. There is also the potential of delivering practice-based workshops in Nuke or Maya as part of the BA Animation team across all years aligned primarily but not limited to the Visual Effects pathway. You will make a significant contribution to the quality of learning and support our students in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully.

You will provide course level subject-specialist expertise in creative practice and digital pedagogy within the visual effects pathway potentially teaching onsite and/ or online depending on current government guidance.

Relevant knowledge, skills and software expertise includes, but is not limited to:

  • A working knowledge of NukeX, including keying workflows, greenscreen compositing, projections, texture mapping and camera tracking.
  • Some knowledge of Maya is beneficial but not essential. In particular lighting and rendering for compositing.
  • Adobe Creative Suite is beneficial but not essential.
  • Knowledges of cameras, lenses and filming is beneficial but not essential.

This is an hourly paid lecturer role - your schedule will be term time only and will vary throughout the year.

You will work closely with other academic staff, including the Visual Effects pathway leader, other pathway leaders and the course leader.

About you

The ideal candidate will have experience teaching ideally in Higher Education or similar. You will take a dynamic and innovative approach to supporting excellent teaching, pedagogy and inclusivity. You will have a good knowledge of compositing workflows ideally with industry experience. You will have an awareness of the global social, cultural, environmental, political and economic issues that are transforming moving image practices.

PG Cert teaching qualification is desirable or equivalent experience.
