The opportunity

We are looking for someone who is proactive, organised and motivated, with proven UK tax knowledge who can demonstrate practical experience of delivering tax advice and guidance on complex matters, as well as reporting to HMRC. You will be an experienced manager, have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, experience building relationships with internal colleagues and external advisors, and be capable of prioritizing and managing workload effectively to meet key deadlines and objectives.  

The UK Tax & Insurance Manager will lead on the provision of professional UK tax and advisory services to staff and students across UAL, including development of suitable policies and procedures to support the arrangements for UK tax and insurance. You will be responsible for the provision of clear, timely and appropriate advice on UK tax and insurance matters to staff at all levels across the University.   You will be responsible for reporting to HMRC for VAT and Gift Aid purposes, for managing compliance arrangements at the University efficiently and for ensuring guidance notes, training materials and other UK tax and insurance information is up-to-date and reflects current legislative requirements where applicable.   You will develop and deliver formal training to staff across UAL in relation to UK tax and insurance. You will manage the Insurance Administrator to deliver an efficient and effective insurance service to staff and students at UAL, and will act as deputy for the Head of Tax, Expenses & Insurance.  

About you

We are looking for

  • A fully or part qualified accountant with extensive and detailed knowledge of tax legislation in the UK
  • Practical experience of preparing UK tax returns and other reports to HMRC
  • Proven experience of providing complex specialist advice and experience of developing policies and procedures
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral, with proven ability to explain complex technical/tax information
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office, email, Agresso, web/internet, electronic diary
  • Practical experience of analysing complex data for reporting and ad hoc purposes
  • Good knowledge of financial reporting systems with specific knowledge of Agresso
  • Knowledge of UK and international financial reporting standards and their application
