The opportunity

As part of the core teaching team within the Illustration Programme you will be expected to make major research contributions to your field of expertise, support research activities and outcomes, actively participate in public, national and international forums for debate and contribute significantly to UAL’s events. You will develop and locate your teaching, research and practice within the research aims and remit of the University of the Arts, London through work in the field of Illustration at Camberwell. You will develop and lead research projects and significantly contribute to the academic research profile and activities of the university. You will take a leading role in the designated field of research while planning and delivering external funding bids as either Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator. You will be expected to act as Directors of Study and/or supervisors to research degree students as appropriate to their workload.

The post-holder will be expected to undertake:

  • To produce research and scholarship which makes a significant contribution to teaching and learning and the furtherance of nowledge and its application within Illustration.
  • Support and develop the activities of the College/Research Centre working closely with the UAL Professoriate, College Associate Dean of Research/ Research Centre Directors, College Research staff.
  • Contribute to the academic research profile of the College/Centre, through attendance and participation at relevant national and international forums, and through participation at College/ Centre/University conferences and events.
  • Lead the development of external funding applications to research councils, charitable trusts and arts agencies as the Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator.
 

About you

Requirements of the role:

·         Undergraduate degree in Illustration or associated subject.

·         Higher degree (e.g. MA) in Illustration or associated subject (Desirable).

·         PhD or Higher level research degree (Desirable).

·         Teaching qualification (PG Cert of equivalent) (Desirable).

·         Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (Desirable).

·         Experience of teaching & assessment in a Higher Education environment (permanent, fractional, or hourly paid contract).

·         Applies an inquiring, innovative and reflexive approach to teaching.

·         Considers equality, diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of teaching practice.

·         Shows commitment to understanding the range of students’ experiences within a course.

·         Collaborates and works effectively within team and across professional groups.

·         Works effectively and respectfully with a wide range of people.

·         Evidence of research, knowledge exchange and/ or professional practice that contributes to the advancement of Illustration             activity and is relevant to the goals of the Programme, College and University.

·         Evidence of using contacts within subject peer group to develop partnerships or collaborations.

·         Plans, prioritises and manages resources effectively to achieve objectives.
