The opportunity


We are looking for a data analyst who has expertise in both quantitative and qualitative methodology to support Academic Support in its submission to the UAL Access and Participation Plan 2021-22. This enhancement offer encourages students to develop learning strategies that support their academic and learning development while they are undertaking their courses.  

Acknowledging the possibility that methods of evaluation could hinder or support systemic change, we are looking for to appoint a candidate who will bring a reflective criticality to the process of developing and enhancing our evaluation approaches.

The role will include -

  • working with Academic Support on the Writing Plus Project, examining three areas of the student learning process: emotional well-being, engagement with UAL wide Academic Support and engagement with embedded Academic Support. 
  • evaluating the mechanisms that lie behind engagement with academic support and its relationship to improving attainment, progression, retention and continuation levels
  • drafting and finalising the research design and reports including: evaluation frameworks, data collection instruments, data collection, analysis plans, work plans, and other relevant sections.  
  • analysing complex data sets using qualitative and quantitative methods and contributing to the creation of project reports and presentations. 
  • as a social researcher, using a range of methods such as interviews, survey questionnaires and focus groups to investigate the attitudes, behaviour and experiences of population samples on specific issues.
 

About you

Your profile should match with the requirements of the role as follows:

  • A post-graduate in a relevant research area or relevant experience in a research area 
  • Extensive experience in quantitative and qualitative methodologies and using different research techniques. 
  • Confidence in using Microsoft Office software, statistics packages, and other data management tools e.g. research database packages. Knowledge of Nvivo software package is also essential.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal including excellent report writing skills and good interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships.
  • Project management skills to oversee all aspects of a research project right through from questionnaire design to the final report. 
  • A flexible approach to work, with the ability to work on several different research projects at once. 
  • Organisation skills, excellent time management and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. 
  • Accuracy and attention to detail when handling data and reporting research findings.
  • Excellent team working skills but the ability to work on one’s own initiative when necessary. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-framing and problem-solving skills
