The opportunity

The Design School is looking to recruit a Lecturer who will contribute across two courses: MA Design Management and MA Design for Art Direction.

The two courses explore quite different aspects of the creative practice spectrum, making the post suitable for applicants with a diverse portfolio in creative industries. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with a highly creative and visual approach to developing a broad range of design projects across design management and/or art direction. The position invites applicants who are particularly interested in facilitating development of students’ diverse creative identities and associated practices.

As lecturer you will be responsible to the MA Design for Art Direction Course Leader for delivery of units on both courses that focus on creative practices in particular. You will bring research and/or industry and teaching experience at postgraduate level. You will manage and participate in the delivery of teaching as well as making a significant contribution to the development of the course curriculum, assessment, quality management and recruitment.

About you

We are looking for an individual with a qualification at undergraduate and postgraduate level in creative practice relevant to design management and/or art direction. You will have knowledge of delivering creative projects in a professional environment and experience of the specialist skills across a broad range of design practices. You will also have comprehensive knowledge of learning and teaching in international contexts and supporting student transition from secondary to university education.

As an academic, previous teaching experience at postgraduate level is essential in addition to experience of professional practice in design management and/or art direction. You will also be able to cite examples of future trajectory of creative industries and their culturally diverse contexts. You should also demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of creative practice as it intersects with social justice, climate emergency and other global social, cultural, environmental, political and economic forces that are transforming the design discipline.

The successful candidate should possess effective interpersonal skills and be a student-centred teacher focused on promoting diversity and inclusivity, while demonstrating strong communication and organisational skills. We are looking for applicants who can work collaboratively with colleagues to develop the subject area and share expertise.
